Webcast to show all 42 games at IWRF World Championship

Opdateret d. 30-07-2014

Af Jannik Lund Andersen

The Local Organizing Committee in Denmark and broadcasters Kanal Sport are set to provide live streaming of every game at the 2014 IWRF Wheelchair Rugby World Championship in Odense.

Action is only a few days away at one of the most exciting para sporting events of the summer, and no one has to miss even a minute of the fun. Live streaming will be available from both courts in Sparekassen Fyn Arena, and all 42 games at the IWRF World Championships will be available on demand. Both the opening and medal ceremony will also be streamed live from Odense.

Event Chairperson Mette Holstein Arnesen is very pleased finally to be able to announce the details of the webcast.

- Right from the get-go, this was a huge priority for us. We learned a lot by live streaming the 2013 Denmark Wheelchair Rugby Challenge, and we were determined to do an even better job this time around. We are very happy with the plan that is in place now, and we look forward to sharing the World Championships with fans all around the world, says Mette Holstein Arnesen.

The webcast will be available in HD at the official site of the World Championship as well as oniwrf.com, and IWRF President John Bishop appreciates the emphasis the organizers have placed on providing fans with an opportunity to follow the games in Odense.

- It’s a fantastic thing, not only for the wheelchair rugby fans who can’t make it to Denmark, but for the sport itself. A quality webcast can open more eyes to the excitement and skill of wheelchair rugby, and spur the interest for the World Championship, as well as for future events, says Bishop.

A tale of two courts

Games played on court 2 in Sparekassen Fyn Arena will receive the full broadcast treatment with multiple cameras, commentators and graphics. Select matches throughout the week will be broadcast on Danish television and will include interviews from the mixed zone. Commentators are Kristian Fredslund Andersen and Dave Mengyan.

The court 1 setup is much more basic with just one camera filming, and without audio commentary and graphics. The communications team at the World Championships will provide live text updates and commentary on Facebook, as well as reactions from the mixed zone straight after the games.

Anders Frost Brandstrup, Chief Editor at Kanal Sport, promises to provide a quality viewing experience on both courts.

- The IWRF World Championship is an exciting job for us, and we will do everything in our power to provide a good experience for the many viewers in Denmark and around the world. We’ve studied the sport through the last couple of months, and we’ve visited the Danish training camp to get as good a feel for the game as possible, and I can promise, that we are well prepared. Monday can’t come soon enough for us, says Anders Frost Brandstrup.

Changes to the game schedule

A couple of changes have been made to the game schedule to make optimal use of the setup on court 2. Both games on the opening day will now be played on court 2, and both semifinals on Saturday have been moved to the court as well.
